The Fender Jazzmaster was first introduced in 1958. The design was more for the upper market thant the Stratocaster. The Jazzmaster was targetted at jazz guitarists but was also used by surf rock as well as alternative rock guitarists.
Robert Smith of The Cure and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr are the more popular music artists who are devoted to the Jazzmaster. In 2007, Fender released the J Mascis signature Jazzmaster in honor of the great musician.
