About Gibson Explorer Guitars

The Gibson Explorer electric guitar was instroduced in 1958.  The Explorer was one of the first guitars to have a futuristic body design which had Gibson market it under the name of "Futura".  The marketing of the model was not successful then so production was stopped and was resumed only in 1976. The Explorer became popular with the hard rock and heavy metal players of the 70s and 80s.
