About Gibson Firebird Guitars
The Gibson Firebird guitar was first manufactured in 1963 until the present. This model was made to compete with Fender's Stratocaster and Telecaster models. The design of the guitar was made by a car designer, Ray Dietrich, since previous styles did not click with the guitar playing public. Dietrich then made the Firebird take on the lines of mid-50s car tailfins and rounded edges. Other changes to the guitar body was also implemented. The most
unusual aspect is that the guitar is "backward" in that the right-hand
(treble) horn of the body is longer than the other. Thus, the original
Firebirds were unofficially referred to as "reverse".
